This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of corporate social responsibility (CSR) to alleviate financial problems in businesses which may affect their chances of entering financial distress condition or worse, bankruptcy. Furthermore, the addition of earnings management as moderating variable

ven to alleviate financial distress condition. In addition, the exercising of symbolic CSR is able to mitigate bankruptcy risk. Different results are shown from the involvement of family members within the organization. Non-family firms show that CSR and earnings management are able to enhance firm

condition and reduce financial distress condition, meanwhile, family firms don’t have any significant impact into this relationship.
