「負空間」意指字身框內筆畫以外的空間,在普遍採用部件組字法造字的字型設計產業中,字型設計師對「負空間」的控制技巧顯得格外重要。部件組字法相較傳統骨架筆畫法的優勢在於不需逐一重建筆畫造形,能夠取用預先造好的部件進行組合,然而組合後的字體字形及負空間之間的平衡仍需以人工反覆進行調整。為尋求以數值描述的方法探討部件內負空間的關係,本研究以文鼎UD晶熙黑體為研究對象,選錄新編國語日報辭典(修訂版)所有具備部件「木」條件共計486字,再依字形結構層次對部件分類中符合以「一級部件」為拆分方式的基礎上,針對包含部件「木」的字元符號作為取樣範圍,共計334字元符號。研究設計依據文獻提示,採用內切圓法,針對部

件「木」的負空間進行系統性的觀察,目的在探討在不同部件位置及整字條件下的受檢視變異項筆畫數、部件複雜度、矩形面積及CCAR指標,與依變數負空間之相關性,最後判斷採用線性模型進行數值預測的可行性。研究發現,在一個字元符號中,每個筆畫之間的負空間存在數組不同連動關係的類型且彼此相互牽動,而影響負空間的主要變異項來自部件所在位置的部件矩形面積及CCAR指標,且能根據這些條件建立預測模型對負空間的大小進行有效預測。
