In recent decades, the Green Building concept has been considered one of the most effective solutions for reducing the environmental impacts from the construction sector. Although several Green Building Assessment Schemes (GBAS) have been developed and practiced worldwide, the localized sustainabil

ity assessment tools were designed to suit the characteristics of the specific country. Green Building Council Vietnam has developed the LOTUS assessment tool for green building evaluation; however, the adoption is still in its initial stages and has many limitations due to various barriers and chal

lenges. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a promising technology that could increase coordination among stakeholders, provide more accessible access to information, simpler green building certification, and optimized solutions for sustainable design. This study conducted a systematic review of

BIM assessment tools to summarize comprehensive databases, data exchange protocols, assessment frameworks, and result outputs. It aims to provide a complete insight into the application of BIM and the green building assessment situation. In addition, a typical BIM-based framework is proposed to illu

strate the general data flow within integrating the BIM model and LOTUS sustainable data. Specifically, an assessment tool (Dynamo tool) is developed as a BIM–integrated plug–in to support the material resource assessment process in the LOTUS standard. The framework and BIM plug-in are verified usin

g two-sample models developed by adding some essential data and parameters into the model absent in the original BIM model. Based on the case study, an instruction was proposed for successfully utilizing the tool in obtaining green building certification. The developed plug-in proves that green data

relevant for LOTUS certification can be automatically processed.
